New Delhi, June 11 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his first Lok Sabha speech on Wednesday stressed upon the promotion of north-eastern states, especially Sikkim, in terms of organic productivity. Modi stated that north-east can play an important role in world organic market by manufacturing organic products. He also added that just like soil health cards are given to farmers in Gujarat, they can be given to farmers all over the nation so that they know their soil well and do not make any extra expenses. LS Polls 2014: Assam, Tripura, Sikkim and Goa begin voting

Goa/ Assam/ Tripura, April 12 (ANI): Voting in four states, namely Assam, Goa, Sikkim and Tripura began on Saturday, with voters casting ballots that would decide the fate of over 1.2 billion people. Polling began at 7am in four states for seven consituencies, namely three seats in Assam, two in Goa and one each in Sikkim and Tripura. Around 50 lakh voters will vote for 74 candidates in the four states. Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who was amongst the early voters, pinned hopes on his party. In Goa, 19 candidates are in the fray for the North and South Goa constituencies, which will witness a single phased poll. While Assam has nearly 30 million eligible voters, Goa has over 1 million. Sikkim has a 362,326 electorate, of which 175,549 are women. As many as 1.13 million electorate are eligible to vote as 12 candidates battle it out for the Tripura East constituency. Apr 12, 2014

PM Manmohan Singh and PM Sheikh Hasina meet at BIMSTEC, reiterate friendly ties

New Delhi, March 10 (ANI): Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh met recently in the Burmese capital of Nay pyi taw and reiterated the warm and friendly ties that the two neighbouring countries share. On the sidelines of the BIMSTEC summit, Manmohan Singh met PM Sheikh Hasina and conveyed to her that a pact on the Teesta water sharing was an intricate issue but one which India was in favour of signing. The Teesta River is said to be the lifeline of Sikkim, flowing for almost the entire length of the state. The river forms the border between Sikkim and West Bengal before joining the Brahmaputra as a tributary in Bangladesh.
