Govt bond yield spike temporary: P Chidambaram

Mumbai, Nov 19 (ANI): Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday said that the a recent spike in government bond yield is temporary and that the central bank could take some steps to bring the yields down should food inflation moderate. Bond yields have risen since the Reserve Bank of India raised interest rates for a second consecutive month on October 29. PM, Sonia inaugurate first all-women bank

Mumbai, Nov 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday inaugurated the country's first all-women bank, the Bharatiya Mahila Bank, an initiative to empower women, with a corpus of rupees 10 billion to function as a universal bank. The announcement for this initiative was made by Indian Finance Minister, P Chidambaram during the annual budget, earlier this year. The inauguration of the bank coincided with the birth anniversary of former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. Chennai, Nov 09 (ANI): Union Finance Minister, P Chidambaram, has warned tax defaulters of service tax and urged the non-filers to take advantage of the scheme that waives interest and other penalties. The Finance Minister was speaking at an interactive session on Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme (VCES) - 2013 in Chennai on Saturday and called on non-payers to come clean before December 31, 2013. Under VCES - 2013, an Indian government amnesty scheme, one is offered a chance to make onetime payment of service tax dues for the period of October 1, 2007 to December 31, 2012, without interest and penalty. India slams Sri Lanka for unilateral stand on issue of human rights violations

Chennai, Nov 02 (ANI): Union Finance Minister, P Chidambaram on Saturday slammed Sri Lankan government for its unilateral stand on the issue of human rights violations, amid speculations of Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's participation in the Commonwealth Heads Meeting in Colombo. Chidambaram met DMK chief M Karunanidhi in Chennai to discuss about Singh participating in the meeting. Chidambaram said that human rights violations should be thoroughly investigated. Earlier on October 24, the government of Tamil Nadu moved a resolution in the state assembly, demanding India to boycott the meet in Colombo as a mark of protest against the war crimes committed by Sri Lankan regime on Tamils.
