Foodies satiate taste buds at fest in Assam

Guwahati, Dec 05 (ANI): Food lovers throng annual Mongolian Food Festival, which is organised during the winters, in northeastern Assam state. Organised on the banks of River Brahmaputra, the 10-day long food fest in Guwahati city saw visitors enjoying varieties of food prepared by different tribes. People savoured dishes specific to Assam. Most of the tribes in Assam are of Mongolian origin. Some also have their origins in the Tibeto-Burman and South-East Asian regions. The organisers believe the traditions, culture and food practices of Mongolian-origin tribes are diminishing and such kinds of events will help people in promoting their food items. The tribal foods of the northeast were not that popular five to ten years ago but nowadays they have become an attraction among people. Apart from various delicacies, local rice beer was also served at most of the stalls, which is a traditional delicacy of the region. The festival, which began on November 30, will conclude on December 10. Dec 5, 2014

Indian fishermen released by Pakistan return home

Rajkot, Dec 3 (ANI): 35 fishermen, who were released by Pakistan three days ago, expressed happiness after they returned home in India. The fishermen had been arrested for illegal fishing in Pakistani waters. One prisoner was arrested for illegally crossing the border. These fishermen were natives form Saurashtra region of Gujarat. One of the organisation working in Pakistan gave all 35 fishermen Pakistan currency worth 10000 rupees (161.600 USD) and a kit which includes a saree, shirt and other household items. Meanwhile, assistant director of fisheries, KP Tandon, said that all the fishermen were looked after well. PM Modi inaugurates Nagaland Hornbill Festival, announces 28 thousand crore fund for railways connec

Kisama, Dec 01 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the Hornbill Festival and Nagaland Statehood Day celebrations in Kisama. Dressed as a Naga warrior while addressing people at the venue, Modi said that unlike the rest of India which had SEZs (Special Economic Zones), the Northeast region was full of NEZs, that is, 'Natural Economic Zones'. PM Modi also announced a package of rupees 28 thousand crore for the establishment of 14 new railway lines in the Northeast. He said that northeast is a perfect tourist destination and to further work on the same, railway connectivity is essential. He also talked about 24 hours power supply in the region for development.
