India's traditional industries seek special grant in annual budget

Kochi, Feb 27 (ANI): In a hope to stabilize India's drooping traditional industries like handloom, handicrafts, coir, cashew and beedi, industry experts are looking forward to the Narendra Modi government undertaking special measures in its annual budget for the fiscal year 2015-16 to be presented on Saturday. The traditional industries are mainly labour intensive and rely on skills that are passed on from one generation to another. The workforce of these industries mainly includes tribal people who remain deprived of their basic necessities even after 68 years of India's Independence. He added that a special grant from the central government would benefit millions of people involved in the industry like, raw material collectors, cutters, makers, distributors. Feb 27, 2015

Northeast region emerges as a potential investment destination

Guwahati, Feb 20 (ANI): A steady decline in insurgency has given a boost to trade and commerce activities in the Northeast region. Recently, several Medium, Micro and Small industries from the northeastern region as well as from other states and neighbouring countries have come together to showcase their products at the ongoing 22nd Guwahati International Trade Fair. The fair organized by the Industries and Trade Fair Association of Assam in association with National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC), was inaugurated by Union Cabinet Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Kalraj Mishra in the presence of several dignitaries including Bangladesh High commissioner. The Union Minister attended the inaugural session of the Northeast MSME Conclave at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship and highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by the centre for promoting entrepreneurship in the MSME sector in the region. India to decide on Rafale fighter jet deal only after March

Bengaluru, Feb 18 (ANI): India will decide on the fate of a long-delayed deal for 126 Dassault Rafale fighter jets only after March, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Wednesday. While addressing a news conference on the first day of 'Aero India 2015', the five-day air show, Parrikar said that the ministry's Contract Negotiations Committee (CNC) should report back by early March. The tenth edition of the air show was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the day at Yelahanka air base. Parrikar said that the city was the appropriate place to host the show as most of the aero-space industries were located here. Feb 18, 2015
