Korba, Feb 23 (ANI): Born in 1896, world’s oldest man, 118-year- old Premsai Patel, native of a remote village, attributed his long, healthy life to fresh green vegetables, pulses and a strict vegetarian diet. Patel, A retired government teacher, lives in Korba district of Chhattisgarh where he starts each day by reciting verses from the sacred Hindu scripture ‘Ramcharitmanas’ which he says ‘purifies one’s body and the soul’. Patel, lives with in a big joint family of sons, daughters- in- law and their children. Born in 1896, Patel is a living testimony of the heydays of Indian kings and British rule. A woman relative, Ghana Bai, said that Patel believes in living a happy and contented life and therefore, eats and drinks simple food without suffering the perils of old age. Feb 23, 2014

Khajuraho, feb 21 (ANI): The world-renowned Dance Festival began in Khajuraho - the city of ancient temples - in India's central province of Madhya Pradesh, with an aim to promote cultural and traditional dances of the country. Dancers performed several old and traditional Indian dance forms like Bharatanatyam and Odissi attempting to keep the dances alive as a part of our heritage. The dancers described their experience of performing in Khajuraho city, a place famous for its temples with exquisite sex sculptures and paintings, a holy one. Many classical artists were honoured at the festival and young dancers got a platform to showcase their talent. The event saw the presence of various provincial leaders including state culture and tourism minister, Surendra Patwa. Many tourists from other countries also made it to the festival to view and participate in it.The week-long event will see classical dancers performing various dance styles including Kuchipudi, Kathak and Manipuri. Kerala, Feb 14 (ANI): Devotees thronged the ten-day long famed temple festival, 'Attukal Pongala', to seek blessings of Hindu goddess, 'Attukal Devi', and to see majestic elephants decorated with ornaments for a procession in Thiruvananthapuram city of India's God's own country, southern Kerala province. The festival witnessed 11 richly caparisoned elephants, decorated with gold ornaments, and divided into two groups in the Attukal temple premises, amid drumbeats and frenzied shouts of devotees. Elephants form a major part of religious festivals in Kerala. In this annual festival, women from all walks of life, gather at the temple and perform a ritual of offering rice cooked in earthen pots to seek the blessings of the goddess.
