Tripura/ Himachal Pradesh/ Uttarakhand, Aug 16 (ANI): Heavy rainfall due to a cloudburst in various parts of India on Friday wreaked havoc, cutting-off villages, washing away roads and bridges at several places and killing scores of people. In Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, 17 people have been buried alive as dangerous landslides hit the hilly region, where torrents of rainfall have been hitting for nearly weeks now. Meanwhile, cities of Dehradun and Haridwar have not gained any sort of respite from Mother Nature’s fury as 20 persons were killed when their houses were washed away due to landslides and floods. Agartala/ New Delhi, Aug 16 (ANI): 20- years –old Dipa Karmakar, a gymnast from Tripura has become the first Indian woman to win a medal at Commonwealth Games in gymnastic by winning a Bronze in Vault category. On her arrival in Agartala, she received a warm welcome by hundreds of her fans, relatives, sports lovers and well wishers. Dipa scored the highest in the second Vault with 15.100 to bring up her average to 14.366. Now, she is all set to play at Asian games in South Korea this September. Dipa and her coach Nandi were felicitated at Umakanta mini-stadium by Tripura’s Sports Minister Shahid Chowdhury. Meanwhile, Laishram Sarita Devi from Manipur, who bagged a silver medal in boxing, received a grand welcome on her arrival at Delhi airport. Sarita Devi not only contributed to India's tally of medals but also became the first women boxer to have made it to the Games as women's boxing was introduced for the first time this year. Agartala, Aug 8 (ANI): For the first time a food grain consignment from India's southern province of Andhra Pradesh reached northeastern state of Tripura through neighbouring Bangladesh as a part of cooperation mechanism between the two nations. Three Bangladeshi trucks carrying 51 tonnes of rice entered Tripura through the Akhaura integrated check post on Thursday in the presence of officials of Food Corporation of India (FCI). Indian police escorted Bangladeshi trucks as they directly entered the FCI warehouse at Nandannagar. This step has been taken to reduce the cost and prevent a second transshipment at the Akhaura India-Bangladesh border. MoU signed to boost up power capacity without additional fuel consumption in north-east

Agartala, July 23 (ANI): India’s North East Power Corporation (NEEPCO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) to upgrade three power projects in Tripura. Two power projects – Baramura gas thermal power project and Rukhia gas thermal power plant – will be converted into combined cycle in order to raise power capacity without increasing the fuel consumption. The other Dumbur hydro power project will undergo renovation to increase its power generation capacity. Chairman-cum-managing Director of NEEPCO, PC Pankaj, said this MoU will prove very beneficial as more power will be generated without increasing the tariff. In order to give a boost to the tea industry in Tripura, a training scheme for skill development of the tea workers was launched recently. Implemented by the National Skill Development Corporation through its various training partners, it aims to provide scientific knowledge to the traditional tea growers as well as to those interested in joining this sector. The one-month long training programme imparts skills on various aspects of growing tea, including the preparation of nurseries, choosing saplings, use of fertilizers and maximizing the yield. Upon completing the training, the trainees will be awarded with a certificate from the government and National Skill Development Corporation, along with a monetary reward. The scheme is a part of Standard Training Assessment and Rewards (STAR) and was launched by the government last year to encourage people to acquire skills for different job roles.
