Bangladesh court awards death sentence to senior Islamist leader for 1971 war crimes

Dhaka, Feb 19 (ANI): Senior Islamist leader of Bangladeshs Jamaat-e-Islami Abdus Subhan was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal court in Dhaka for crimes committed during the 1971 war of independence with Pakistan. Subhan was the chief of Jamaats Pabna unit and was in charge of the party's highest policymaking body during the post-Liberation War in 1971. He has been charged with nine crimes against humanity, including murder, genocide, abductions, detention, torture and loot. Subhan was arrested at the toll plaza of the Bangabandhu Bridge in capital Dhaka on Sep 20, 2012. He was later shown arrested in the war crimes case and was sent to jail. An investigation into his war crimes began on April 15, 2012. Feb 19, 2015
