Tamil rights groups urge govt to take up fishermen issue with Sri Lanka

Chennai, Nov 09 (ANI): Tamil Rights groups screened a documentary in Chennai showcasing the plight of their fishermen and urged Central government to raise the issue with the Sri Lankan government. Five Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in 2011 on charges of smuggling drugs and on October 30, the Colombo High Court held them guilty. Talking to mediapersons in Chennai, the founder of ‘the May 17 Movement’, a group demanding an independent state for Tamils living in India and Sri Lanka, Thirumurugan Gandhi, said the Indian government needs to take up the investigation very seriously. Kamal Haasan takes up Modi's clean India challenge on 60th birthday

Chennai, Nov 7 (ANI): Veteran Actor Kamal Haasan, took up 'Clean India' mission on his 60th birthday on Friday, swept street and picked up garbage in Tamil Nadu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the nationwide cleanliness mission on October 02 to raise awareness of cleanliness and better sanitation among its citizens under the banner of 'Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan', or Clean India Campaign. Haasan took up cleaning of Madhambakkam Lake in Chennai. Haasan participated in the movement along with the volunteers of a welfare club and volunteers of Environmentalist Foundation of India and his fans. Pakistan rejects India's conditions on dialogue process

Islamabad, Nov 07 (ANI): Pakistan rejected Indian Defence Minister's tough stance on dialogue, saying it does not accept conditions on composite dialogue with the arch rival. Answering a question about Arun Jaitley's statement that Pakistan had to decide whether they want to be in talks with the Indian government or the separatists, foreign ministry spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said dialogue with India is not a favour, but a necessity for peace and development in South Asia. A day earlier, Jaitley had drawn a "red line" and said Pakistan had to reconsider whether it wanted to speak to the Government of India or "to those who want to break India." Call for shutdown in Kashmir to protest killing of two youths by Army

Srinagar, Nov 5 (ANI): A separatist leader and chairman of the moderate faction of All Parties Hurriyat (Freedom) Conference (APHC) in Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, called for a complete shutdown on Wednesday (November 05). The strike call comes in the wake of the killing of two youths by the Army in Budgam district on Monday evening, soon after which there was a complete shutdown in the region to protest the incident. Security personnel have been deployed in Srinagar to prevent any untoward incident. As per local media reports, two youths were killed in Army firing after they did not stop at check points in Budgam district. The Army had received information on the movement of militants in Budgam after which they set up three check points. The youths did not stop at any point, which led security personnel to fire at them. The ruling party in the state, National Conference (NC), condemned the incident and demanded probe into the matter. Defence Minister, Arun Jaitley, has also condemned the incident and said an enquiry would be set up to investigate the matter. Nov 5, 2014
