New Delhi, Aug 14 (ANI): A Delhi court on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to Sher Singh Rana in 2001 bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi murder case. While delivering its judgement, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Rana. Public Prosecutor Manisha Sharma said that they demanded death sentence from the court as it was pre planned murder, but the court refrained from the same. On August 08, the court convicted Rana, who gunned down Phoolan Devi, allegedly avenging the 1981 Behmai massacre in which she killed 17 people of the Thakur community. Aug 14, 2014

Twin murders: Siblings found dead in Delhi_s Karawal Nagar

New Delhi, Aug 14 (ANI): An 18-year-old girl and her 8-year-old brother were found murdered in their bedroom in north east Delhi_s Karawal Nagar on Thursday. The two used to stay with their aunt who discovered the bodies when she came in to the bedroom to wake them up for school. A PCR call was made around 6:30 AM. The siblings had injury marks from a sharp object around their necks. The girl_s limbs were also found tied. Police haven_t ruled out a case of sexual assault on the girl. School teachers urge govt to take tough measures against Maoists in Jharkhand

Gumla, Aug 12 (ANI): Government teachers in red corridor of Gumla district urged authorities to take tough measures against the Maoists who are responsible for instilling fear among tutors leading to the shut down of schools in the area. The teachers staged a protest in the wake of abduction and murder of two government school tutors, who were siblings in Gumla district of Jharkhand on August 10. Prakash Toppo, a teacher with the Ghaghra Bansari Middle School, while going to school was abducted on August 06. Consequently, the abductors made a phone call at Toppo's residence demanding ransom of four lakh rupees.
