Residents of Islamabad vow to carry forward Malala's mission

Islamabad, Oct 15 (ANI): Dozens of rights activists and residents of Pakistani capital took to the streets of Islamabad recently with lighted torches and candles to pay tributes to their young Nobel laureate, Malala Yousafzai. Malala, the Pakistani teenager, who was shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012 for advocating girls' right to education won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize on October 10, along with Indian campaigner against child trafficking and labour Kailash Satyarthi. Yousafzai, aged 17, becomes the youngest Nobel Prize winner and 60-year-old Satyarthi the first Indian-born winner of the accolade. Chanting "Provide education for children, or leave your chairs", the crowd demanded that the government takes on girls' education on a war footing. Yousafzai was attacked in 2012 in a school bus in the Swat Valley of northwest Pakistan by masked gunmen as a punishment for a blog that she wrote for the BBC's Urdu service as an 11-year-old to campaign against the Taliban's efforts to deny women education. Bihar Madarsa bans admission for girls

Nalanda, Oct 15 (ANI): An Islamic religious school - madarsa - in Bihar has banned admission for girls as there is no separate sitting arrangement for them in the campus. Madarsa Azizia in Bihar Sharif, district headquarters of Nalanda district, has issued a diktat that girls will not be enrolled and those already enrolled will not be allowed into the premises. He further added the decision has been taken in the wake of social evils prevailing in the society. Madarsa Azizia is run by Soghra Wakf Estate Committee. It is one of the hundreds of Madarsas affiliated by the state government and its students get free bicycles, uniforms, books and other schemes. Oct 15, 2014

New Delhi/ Mirzapur, Oct 11 (ANI): Proud daughter of India's Nobel peace laureate Kailash Satyarthi said that her father's relentless crusade against child labour and traffickers as well as his fight against child slavery has been recognised and rewarded. Satyarthi, 60, was picked for his struggle against the oppression of children and young people, and for the right of all children to education. In a recent editorial, Satyarthi said that data from non-government organizations indicated that child labourers could number 60 million in India or 6 percent of the total population.
