Massive earthquake strikes Indonesia killing dozens of people

A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian province of Aceh on 7 December, killing dozens of people. Many are feared to be trapped under debris as several buildings collapsed following the massive quake. No tsunami warning was issued by the country’s meteorological department. Southern rail boss apologises for Christmas travel chaos amid RMT and Aslef strikes

One of the bosses of GTR, who run under-fire rail company Southern, has apologised for the travel chaos commuters will face throughout December. The RMT and Aslef unions have called for a number of strikes across the month over a long-running dispute about the changing role of conductors on trains.
