AIBA says future bleak for Boxer Sarita Devi, Reactions flow

New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): L Sarita Devi's amateur boxing career could be finished after her "unacceptable" behaviour at the Incheon Asian Games where the fighter refused to accept her bronze medal on the podium, said the president of the governing AIBA. Sarita was furious after losing her semi-final to local favourite Park Ji-na in the women's lightweight division. She refused to wear the medal when it was presented to her, taking it only in her hand before trying to drape it over Park. When the presentation was over, Sarita left the medal behind, despite being told to take it with her. Meanwhile, former Indian Sports Minister, MS Gill, said that it was very unfortunate and athletes should respect the judgement. New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to Acharya Jivatram Bhagwandas Kripalani as well as freedom fighter Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on their birth anniversary. Modi tweeted, "Scholar, freedom fighter and a man who devoted his life towards nation building, I salute Maulana Abul Kalam Azad on his birth anniversary". Azad was one of the tallest national leaders of his time and promoted the cause of Hindu Muslim unity as well as secularism and socialism. His contribution to laying the foundation of education in independent India is recognised by celebrating his birthday as "National Education Day" across India. The prime minister also paid tribute to Acharya Kripalani. "Tributes to Acharya Kripalani on his birth anniversary. His ideals and strong commitment to serve the poor continue to inspire," he added. Plane hits stray buffalo during take off in Surat

Surat / New Delhi, Nov 7 (ANI): A SpiceJet plane crashed into a stray buffalo during take-off from Surat although no passengers or crew were hurt. The airline was forced to ground the Boeing 737 which suffered "substantial damages", plane's operator said. SpiceJet said the buffalo, which was killed in the accident on Thursday evening, was "essentially invisible" against a dark background. Passengers on the Delhi-bound aircraft were transferred on to another plane, SpiceJet said. Air Vice-Marshal (Retired), Indian Air Force, Kapil Kak, said a thorough inquiry should be launched and infrastructure of all airports across the country should be reviewed.
