New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): The Cabinet has approved the official amendments to the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2008 and to its introduction in the Rajya Sabha. A decision in this regard was taken by it at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi yesterday. The bill is aimed at removing archaic and redundant provisions in the relevant legislations and to enable the insurance sector to work for the betterment of the insured. Dec 11, 2014

New Delhi, Dec 09 (ANI): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh made a statement in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday over the Uber rape case in Delhi. He outlines the steps taken by the government in the case. Condemning the incident, Singh told Rajya Sabha that Uber cab service has been banned in the NCT of Delhi and that the Centre has advised all states and Union Territories to ban all such web-based cab booking services.He also informed the House that the cab involved in the incident was owned by the accused driver. Insurance Bill likely to be passed in current session of Parliament, politicos react

New Delhi, Dec 09 (ANI): The Congress has reportedly dropped its opposition to the insurance bill with the select committee of Rajya Sabha proposing an increase in the foreign equity investment to 49% from the present 26%, paving the way for possible passage of the 10-year-old reform legislation during the current session. The BJP said that the bill is likely to be passed in the current session of the parliament as the suggestions made by various parties have been incorporated. The Insurance Bill, which was heavily debated during the monsoon session of the Parliament in August, was sent to a Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha, after the government was unable to garner the opposition's support for it. Parliament logjam ends after Government agrees to Opposition resolution

New Delhi, Dec 08 (ANI): After a week of Parliament logjam, Rajya Sabha ended the impasse over Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti's controversial remarks on Monday after Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari intervened. Rajya Sabha resumed normal functioning during Question Hour after the Government and the opposition leaders agreed to a compromise formula to end the protests. Following the compromise, Ansari made a fresh appeal to "all members of Parliament, ministers and leaders of all political parties to maintain civility at all costs in public discourse". Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu confirming the development said that the impasse over the minister's remark has ended after RS chairperson's intervention and appealed the opposition leaders to co-operate with the government. Lucknow, Dec 06 (ANI): Former Rajya Sabha MP Banwari Lal Kanchhal was beaten black and blue by a group of lawyers on the sessions court premises. The incident happened on Friday afternoon when Kanchhal, a prominent traders' leader came to the court for hearing in a case involving alleged encroachment by lawyers in Aminabad. The lawyers tore off 68-year-old Kanchhal's clothes in full public view and left him scurrying for cover.
