Pandemonium in Kashmir assembly over multi-million-land scam

Srinagar, Aug 29 (ANI): State assembly of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed mayhem on Friday after a leader of ruling National Conference (NC) party stormed into the well of the House accusing opposition leaders of multi-million land scam. NC legislator Doctor Veeri alleged that patron of regional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and deputy speaker of legislative assembly, Muhammad Sartaj Madni, were party to a multi-crore land scam in south Kashmir. Chief Secretary M Iqbal Khandey was directed to ascertain the facts over the allegations of a legislator that some opposition party members were encroaching upon government land. The directions to Khandey came from Legislative Council Chairman Amrit Malhotra after the NC members raised the issue. Resolution on Indo-Pak talks passed in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly

Srinagar, Aug 28 (ANI): The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution on Indo-Pak talks which urges the Central government to resume its talks with the neighbouring nation. The resolution passed unanimously by the Legislative Council via a voice vote says the state government must urge the union government to resume Indo-Pak dialogue to maintain peace in region, especially in Jammu and Kashmir. National Conference leader Devender Singh Rana said that the resolution has been passed unanimously and urges government to take effective steps to resolve violations on LoC, besides taking steps to ensure rehabilitation of victims of LoC firing. Avid readers throng to National Book Fair in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 27 (ANI): The National book fair held in the 'Kashmir Haat' ground in Srinagar city of Kashmir which attracted thousands of book lovers, promises to make future generations of the valley aware of the history, culture and heritage of the country. The biggest national book fair has been organised by the National Book Trust (NBT) in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy for Art, Culture and Languages, Federation of Publishers and Booksellers Associations in India, National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) and District Administration Srinagar. It Happens: Cultural Festivals help to preserve Tribal art and culture in Nagaland

Nagaland, August 22 (ANI): Dressed up in their traditional costumes, these are members of the Ao tribe of Nagaland. Every year, they gather in Dimapur city to celebrate Tsungmerong, a pre-harvest festival, to express gratitude and seek blessings of the Almighty. They sang traditional songs and showcased their daily chores through an act. The festival gives the message of unity and brotherhood in the state. Various cultural groups from different tribes such as Semma, Angami and Chakesang also took part in the festival. A major attraction of the event was a chicken dance performance by the artists. In another event hosted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in collaboration with Abiogenesis Society, many cultural troops performed the traditional folk music of Nagaland. The event held at Soul Speak hall in Dimapur had performances of Shrimong Folk Harmony and ‘UDX’ music band. The audiences were spellbound by the music.
