Varanasi, Dec 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi as part of nation-wide Good Governance Day celebrations being held by his government. Modi extended his greetings to people of Kashi and nominated few more people for cleanliness drive. Modi nominated India Today Group Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Aroon Purie and India Today Group and several other personalities for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.The other nominees include the Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Acharya, Eenadu Group chief Ramoji Rao, former cricketer Sourav Ganguly, comedian Kapil Sharma, danseuse Sonal Mansingh, former IPS officer and activist Kiran Bedi, Indian Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and Mumbai's dabbawallas. Venkaiah Naidu lauds tabling of goods and service tax bill in Parliament

New Delhi, Dec 24 (ANI): Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu lauded the Goods and Service Tax (GST) bill presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the parliament during its winter session, saying once implemented the bill will be one of the most far reaching tax reforms since independence. Jaitley had on December 19 tabled GST bill, pressing on with a key piece of reform to replace a myriad range of state taxes. The bill introduced by Jaitley needs the support of two thirds of members of parliament as well as ratification by state legislatures which is expected to happen by the next session of parliament. 'Good governance day'on agenda in BJP parliamentary meeting

New Delhi, Dec 23 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday conducted a parliamentary board meeting, even as the counting of votes for the five-phased assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand is underway. Minister of state for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that the agenda of the meeting was 'good governance day'and also Christmas. Rudy said that it is decided that wherever Christmas is being celebrated, there should be active participation by parliamentarians. Further, Rudy stated that having a strong presence in the Lok Sabha was paying dividends and applauded developments that took place in the lower house as against the upper house. New Delhi, Dec 22 (ANI): The Rajya Sabha, on Monday adopted a resolution condemning a Pakistan court's decision to grant bail to Mumbai attacks mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi. There has been widespread protests in India after Lahkhvi was granted bail, two days after Peshawar school attack which killed 132 children and nine staff members. New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): The Central government on Friday tabled the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill in Lok Sabha. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the government aims to bring the tax into effect from April 1, 2016. Government will compensate its state governments for revenue losses due to the new nationwide Goods and Service Tax. He added GST will also add to country's gross domestic product (GDP).
