India, Australia sign MoU on Agriculture

New Delhi, Sep 05 (ANI): An MoU was signed on Friday between the University of Queensland, Australia and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to strengthen linkages in the area of Agriculture. The MoU was signed by Peter Hoj, President and Vice Chancellor of the University of Queensland (UQ) and Arvind Kaushal, Additional Secretary, Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR). Currently, University of Queensland is working in three areas of research in progress for collaboration. Shutdown in Manipur continues for second day

Manipur, Sep 05 (ANI): Security has been stepped up as shutdown called by United Naga Council (UNC), in Manipur entered second day on Friday (September 05), to protest against recent killings of civilians by security forces. On August 30, two civilians were killed and 26 injured in violent police firing to control a rally protesting against the imposition of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 144 in Ukhrul district. The resolution to impose a ban in the state was passed on Monday (September 01) after UNC President, L Adani, convened a high level meeting with representatives of Naga Civil Organisations and chiefs of different Nagaland tribes. Rescue operations begin as floods wreak havoc in Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir, Sep 04 (ANI): Rescue operations began in Jammu and Kashmir as floods, triggered by heavy rains, wreaked havoc. Two people trapped in floodwater were rescued by the army, fire service officials and police in a four-hour joint operation in Rajouri district of the state. Chief of Mang Dharhal village council, Mohammad Shabir, thanked the army and police for rescuing the flood victims. Incessant rains caused floods in the hilly district of Poonch. Due to torrential rains, the route of river in Poonch changed and started flowing towards the residential areas. A resident, Mohammad Razzaq, said several houses were destroyed in the locality. Srinagar, Aug 31 (ANI): Kashmiri girls shined at National Dragon Boat Race Championship and impressed selectors with their hidden talent in Srinagar. The four-day championship was organized by sports council in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir armed police along with different non-government organizations to boost water sports in world famous Dal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir. Participants, hailing from different cities like New Delhi and Punjab, were divided in twelve teams. Girls stole the show by exhibiting their talents in this competition. Srinagar, Aug 29 (ANI): State assembly of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed mayhem on Friday after a leader of ruling National Conference (NC) party stormed into the well of the House accusing opposition leaders of multi-million land scam. NC legislator Doctor Veeri alleged that patron of regional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and deputy speaker of legislative assembly, Muhammad Sartaj Madni, were party to a multi-crore land scam in south Kashmir. Chief Secretary M Iqbal Khandey was directed to ascertain the facts over the allegations of a legislator that some opposition party members were encroaching upon government land. The directions to Khandey came from Legislative Council Chairman Amrit Malhotra after the NC members raised the issue.
