War of words between Imran Khan and Altaf Hussain's MQM intensifies

Islamabad/Karachi, Feb 11 (ANI): Political temperatures in Pakistan continue to rise as the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) held a rally in Karachi to express solidarity with party chief Altaf Hussain after a spate of statements made against him by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan. The war of words started between the two parties after the release of a Joint Interrogation Team (JIT) report implicating an MQM worker in a Karachi factory blaze. It was the worst incident of fire in Pakistan's history in which more than 250 workers trapped inside the factory were burnt to death. The MQM has termed the report as baseless and biased, but a spokeswoman of Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party held a press conference in Islamabad in which she asked the government to take action against Hussain and his party. Baghdad residents relieved following end of city's curfew even as bomb blast kills at least 34 befor

Baghdad, Feb 08 (ANI): Residents of Baghdad enjoyed the first curfew-free night in over a decade as authorities on midnight at Sunday finally lifted restrictions on movement that had been synonymous with instability and a lack of security. A large crowd gathered at Baghdad's central Tahrir Square to celebrate the occasion as security forces kept a visible presence on the streets. Officials hope to demonstrate that Baghdad no longer faces a threat from Islamic State, the militant group which seized large areas of northern and western Iraq last year. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, a moderate Shi'ite Islamist who took office in September, has struggled to develop a broad support base. Baghdad police chief Shaker Abdul Rida Asadi said the lifting of the curfew showed Iraq's security forces are becoming more competent in tackling the issue of violence. However, at least 34 people were killed in three bombings around Baghdad on Saturday (February 7), hours before the government was due to lift the curfew on the capital. Feb 8, 2015
