PM Narendra Modi meets Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav

Kathmandu, Aug 4 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav and other leaders of the different political parties in Kathmandu on Monday. Modi is on a two-day official vist to Nepal, the first bilateral visit to the country by an Indian prime minister in 17 years. Earlier in the day, Modi visited the famous Pashupatinath Temple to offer his prayers. He sanctioned 25 crores to build a 'dharamshala' at the major Hindu landmark and offered 2,500 kg of sandalwood at the temple built for Lord Shiva. Aug 4, 2014

Politicos give mixed response to judges remark on introducing Hindu religious books in first grade

Ahmedabad/New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): A remark by a judge of Supreme Court stating that mythological texts of Mahabharata and Bhagwad Gita should be introduced in the academic curriculum for first standard students instead of in high school drew mixed response. Addressing an international conference, Justice A.R. Dave said that if in a democratic country everybody is good, then they would naturally elect someone who is very good and that person will never think of damaging anyone. The festival is believed to bring prosperity and happiness, eradicating evil and hardships from people’s lives. Snake charmers lined the streets and attracted devotees to offer milk to snakes. Followers of Lord Shiva in Madhya Pradesh province also celebrated the festival with religious pageantry. As per scriptures, Shiva sports a snake around his neck while Vishnu reclines on a hooded couch created by Shesha Naga. The festival also holds great importance for the snake charmer community. Kashmir observes shutdown against Kausar Naag pilgrimage

Srinagar, Aug 02 (ANI): Shops remained closed and vehicles were off the road in Srinagar city on Saturday, as separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani gave a call for complete shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir to protest declaration of Hindu pilgrimage to a revered temple. Security personnel were patrolling the streets to prevent any untoward incident. Geelani, chairman of the Hurriyat Conference (G), claimed that the state government’s move to declare the ecologically-fragile Kausar Naag lake for annual pilgrimage would have disastrous consequences on the environment and water resources. He said the area was a very important source of drinking water for millions of people and also irrigates millions of acres of agricultural land.
