PSU bank employees go on nationwide strike over wage revision demand

Bhopal/ Kanpur/ Lucknow/ New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): Public sector banks across India called for a day long nationwide strike on Wednesday demanding the long pending increment in the employees' wages. The strike has been called under the banner of an umbrella organisation of banks, United Forum of Bank Union. According to the media reports, much against the 23 per cent wage hike demand by the bank employees, Indian Banks' Association offered an increment of 11 per cent, which led unions to call for a strike. The protesters in New Delhi assembled outside various banks and shouted slogans demanding a revision in their salaries. Expressing resentment, an employee of National Organisation of Bank Workers, Ashwini, said around nine bank unions, 800,000 bank employees and more than 50,000 branches are on strike. The employees have been awaiting their salary revision since November 2012 but are yet to hear an official announcement from the government. Meanwhile in Kanpur city, bank union leader Pradeep Vajpayee said the conditions in which bank employees work are deteriorating. Nov 12, 2014

PM Modi to visit Australia this week for G-20 summit

New Delhi, Nov 11 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Australia from November 16-18 for G-20 summit later this week, said foreign ministry official. India wants to keep a so-called 'peace clause' that protects its huge state food purchases until the World Trade Organization can strike a definitive deal on stockpiling. As originally envisaged in Bali, the clause would expire in four years. India’s foreign ministry official Anil Wadhwa said Modi`s visit to Australia would improve and strengthen relations between the two countries. India would also discuss contours of an agreement between US, Japan, India and Australia to check Chinese influence in the region. The Prime Minister will hold delegation-level talks with his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott, and will address the Parliament in Canberra. He will have political-business community meetings in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The Prime Minister will also participate in the G-20 Summit in Australia, following which he shall travel to Fiji after a gap of 33 years. AAP protest in Chennai for release of fishermen

Chennai, Nov 08 (ANI): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday went on a hunger strike demanding the Central Government to take necessary steps to bring back the five fishermen who are facing death sentences in Sri Lanka. About 75 AAP cadres took part in this hunger strike. They raised slogans demanding the central government to take necessary legal steps to release the fishermen. The Colombo High Court had earlier this month sentenced five Indian fishermen to death on charges of drug smuggling. They had been arrested on a boat in the seas off northern Jaffna's Delft islet.
