Kashmiris at UN denounce Pakistan's illegal occupation of PoK

Geneva/Muzaffarabad, PoK, September 23, 2014: Speaking at the recently held event at the United Nations in Geneva, observers and activists focused on the deteriorating security situation and attacks on minorities in Pakistan. The event titled 'the Human Rights in South Asia' also raised the issue of human rights violations in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir or PoK and Gilgit Baltistan. Civil society activists, human rights defenders and academicians stressed on Pakistan's move of exploiting the remote region's rich natural resources, apart from curbing the political autonomy. Kashmiri leaders blamed Pakistan for allegedly controlling the region through a proxy government and its secret agencies which have a stranglehold over every aspect of both PoK and Gilgit Baltistan. Kashmiri also accused Pakistan's spy agencies for suppressing the national movement through enforced disappearances and targetted killings. Sep 23, 2014

Tribals in Jharkhand launch anti liquor campaign

Lohardaga, Sep 22 (ANI): Hundreds of tribal women in a village of Lohardaga district of Jharkhand launched an anti liquor campaign on Monday to make their village hooch free. The women went on a rampage to destroy material used to produce country-made liquor in the villages. A tribal anti liquor activist, Malti Devi said that the campaign has been launched to make the state addiction free. Earlier, in a similar movement in 1991, women from the villages of Andhra Pradesh addressed the growing alcohol dependency among men and the consequent domestic abuse and squandered household income by staging protests aimed at forcing out local liquor traders. Bhopal observes no vehicle Sunday to create eco friendly city with healthy people

Bhopal, Sep 21 (ANI): A No Vehicle Sunday dawned in Bhopal to make residents aware of the importance of an eco friendly, healthy, unpolluted environment. The drive is called “Raahgiri Concept” which is India’s first sustained car-free citizen initiative where participants are pedestrians (raahgir) who play a major role. In fact this drive was started in Gurgaon on November 17, 2013 and the participants had made this movement nationally and internationally acclaimed through their active participation. The salient features of this concept include road safety and promoting sustainable transport, Environment, Physical activities-health and Social inclusiveness. With these aims in mind, pedestrians reclaim the streets for themselves under this drive. City Engineer in Bhopal Municipal Corporation, Devendra Tiwari, said both the Municipal Corportion and Bhopal Link Limited are working together for the last 4-5 years to promote more and more usage of non motor public transport. Kerry says Iran could help 'take out' IS

United Nations, Sep 21 (ANI): US Secretary of State John Kerry has said that Iran could play a crucial role in defeating the Islamic State group. Even while the US refrained from inviting Iran from joining the US-led military coalition, Kerry said that Iran could help "take out" IS. Kerry said in a meeting of the United Nations Security Council that it was about taking out an entire network, decimating and discrediting a militant cult masquerading as a religious movement.
