J and K holds Rajya Sabha elections

Jammu, Feb 07 (ANI): Kashmir is holding elections for four seats in the upper house of parliament with seven candidates in the fray. Prominent among those whose fate will be decided is Congress' Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha. Jammu and Kashmir Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, whose regional National Conference (NC) party is supporting Azad, was among those who cast their votes. Besides Azad, the other contestants are Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) Mir Mohammad Fayaz and Nazir Ahmad Laway; BJP's Shamsher Singh and Chander Mohan Sharma; and Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo and Nasir Aslam Wani of NC. Delhi polls: AAP rejects Imam Bukhari's offer of support

New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday rejected former Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari's offer of support for the Delhi Assembly polls and its aftermath. AAP leader Ashutosh recalled that Bukhari had invited Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and not Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for his son's anointment as the shahi imam of Jama Majid in November last year. Bukhari had earlier in the day appealed to Muslims to support the AAP in tomorrow's assembly polls to help form a secular government in Delhi. The religious leader had endorsed the Congress during last year's Lok Sabha polls, which saw the party being routed after 10 years in power. A total of 673 candidates are in the fray for the 70-member Delhi Assembly which goes to polls tomorrow. The results will be declared on February 10. Feb 6, 2015

Srinjoy Bose resigns from TMC, gives up RS membership

New Delhi, Feb 05 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Srinjoy Bose, who has been granted conditional bail in the Saradha chit-fund scam, on Thursday resigned from his party and also gave up the Rajya Sabha membership. He tweeted saying, "With immediate effect, I have resigned from my membership of the Rajya Sabha. I have also decided to resign from the primary membership of the Trinamool Congress (TMC)." "During my days in custody, I finally realized that politics isn't my cup of tea. I am thankful to Didi (Mamata Banerjee) that she had thought me capable enough to make me an MP," he added. The TMC MP was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged links in the Saradha scam in November last year.
