Congress hails ECs order to take action on manipulation of opinion polls

New Delhi, Mar 1 (ANI): Acting on a complaint on alleged manipulation of opinion polls by some organizations, the Election Commission has asked the Centre to take appropriate action in the matter. The EC has said the matter involves allegations of conspiracy to prepare false reports/polls for publishing misleading information on consideration of illegal payment of money in return. Speaking over the EC’s decision, the Congress leader K.C. Mittal said that the action taken would expose the nexus, manipulations and the vulnerability of opinion polls. Mar 1, 2014

Bombay HC questions on repeated paroles for Sanjay Dutt

Mumbai, Feb 26 (ANI): The Bombay high court questioned the parole extension for actor Sanjay Dutt. Lawyer Nikhil Chaudhary, who filed Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against parole granted to Dutt, clarified that the petition was not against the actor but he was addressing larger issues of equality. The court has also sought all papers based on which the paroles have been granted. The court also criticised the state government of Maharashtra for discriminating between Bollywood actor and other convicts. Dutt was sentenced to five years jail by the Supreme Court in 2013 for possession of illegal weapons in a case linked to the 1993 Mumbai bombings. Feb 26, 2014
