Army Chief Bikram Singh pays homage to Kargil martyrs

Kargil, July 25 (ANI): The Army commemorated the _Vijay Diwas_ at the war memorial in Drass sector of Kargil on Friday. Army Chief General Bikram Singh paid tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil war in the ceremony at the war memorial in Drass. Singh will also interact with the families of the martyred soldiers during the day. Besides the Army Chief, other top commanders of the Army, war heroes, martyrs_ families, and other dignitaries were present at the commemorative wreath laying ceremony. Each year since 1999, the _Kargil Vijay Diwas_ is celebrated on 26 July every year to mark the exit of Pakistan Army from Indian territory and Indian Army bunkers captured by them. Jul 25, 2014

Chhattisgarh/ Himachal Pradesh/ New Delhi, April 30 (ANI): BJP’s Prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, who invoked sentiments in the name of Kargil war hero Vikram Batra while campaigning in Himachal Pradesh, said he was deeply hurt with the criticism and distortion of his remark by political opponents. Earlier on Tuesday, Modi was addressing an election rally in Palampur, the hometown of the Kargil war hero when he referred to Batra's catch-phrase of "Yeh Dil Maange More" (the heart wants more) to seek votes for all four seats from Himachal Pradesh in the ongoing parliamentary polls. However, his remark evoked criticism from political opponents and from late Captain Batra’s parents. The late soldier’s father, G L Batra, condemned the remark made by Modi.
