Badalta Manzar (May 15, 2014): An independent news report on Jammu and Kashmir

The Jammu and Kashmir Government is committed to promoting sports and sporting activities among the youth of the state. Several initiatives have been taken to strengthen sports infrastructure in the region, so that talented youth have all the facilities required to hone their skills to compete with the best at the national and international level. Many major sports events and competitive tournaments have also been organized to provide them with greater exposure. In an effort to encourage young soccer players, the J&K Football Association (JKFA) recently held the Indoor Futsal Championship 2014 at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Stadium, Srinagar. People of Rajouri and and Poonch have been demanding rail connectivity for years. The local leaders had promised them that the railway project would be taken up soon, but it hasn’t started yet. The govt. middle school Gohan in district Baramulla excels in education, but has a poor play ground, and as a result the students are not able to take part in different sporting activities. Also, the school does not have a proper fence, which compromises the privacy of the students. May 15, 2014

Mizoram, May 1 (ANI): Energetic and focused! Every evening, these budding players in village Kanhmun gather in a local ground to hone their skills in soccer. Despite poor infrastructure, the spirits are high after the state won the Santosh Trophy, an annual national football tournament, recently. Two players from Mizoram, Lalrindika Ralte and Jeje Lalpekula, play for the national team. To encourage football among the youth, the state government has provided two astro turfs at Aizwal and one at Lunglei. The fourth one is coming up at Champhai. In 2012, the state government launched the Mizoram Premier League (MPL) and organized tournaments with the participation of various clubs of the state.
