India celebrates National Press Day, IandB Ministry says nation believes in freedom of press

New Delhi, Nov 16 (ANI): Addressing a gathering to celebrate National Press Day in New Delhi on Sunday, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Rajyavardhan Rathore said that the government believes in freedom of press for the fourth pillar of democracy. A book related to the media was also released at the event by the dignitaries. This year, the National Press Day celebration has been dedicated to the 'Role of Media in Facilitating Transparency in Public Affairs.' Various seminars, symposia, workshops, debates and discussions on topics related to the Press were organised to mark the day. Addressing the gathering, the Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said that media should act with responsibility and not turn into paparazzi. Various journalists, photographers and freelancers excelling in print media were also honoured by the Council which is the only authority enjoying the statutory mandate to encourage the media to pursue its duties. The G20 summit, in Brisbane, is set to begin on Saturday which is focused on boosting world growth, fireproofing the global banking system and closing tax loopholes for giant multinationals. Nepalese rock band enthralls audience at the 8th South Asian Bands Festival 2014

New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): Bands from SAARC countries performed at the 8th South Asian Bands Festival 2014 in New Delhi. The event was organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and NGO Seher. The Nepalese rock band, 'Mukti and Revival' mesmerized the audience with their performance. Members of the band believe that culture of India and Nepal is very similar and such events help to strengthen it further. A total of 14 rock bands from across the Subcontinent performed at the Festival. Besides Nepal, bands from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India (SAARC) and observer country, France played music from across various genres. India agrees with US on food stockpiling, clears way for WTO deal

New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): India has reached an agreement with the United States on public stockpiling of food, Trade Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, said on Thursday (November 13), paving the way for the implementation of a global trade facilitation deal that has been stalled for months. The proposals will be reviewed by the World Trade Organization's General Council, she added, expressing the hope that approval would clear the way for India to sign a protocol enabling implementation of the trade accord. HRD Minister assures quality yet affordable education

New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): Union Education Minister Smriti Irani said that the Central government launched new schemes to provide quality yet affordable education to everyone. Her ministry launched the 'Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds' (SWAYAM), a web portal where Massive Open On-line Courses (MOOCs) will be available on all kinds of subjects. Woman paraded naked in Rajasthan, 30 accused arrested

Rajsamand, Nov 11 (ANI): Police arrested 30 accused for allegedly parading a woman half naked in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, said a senior officer. The 40-year-old woman was allegedly stripped and paraded on a donkey across a tribal village by village council members who were accusing her of being involved in a murder case at Thurabad village in Rajsamand district. Police registered the case, following the complaint filed by the woman’s husband, Uday Singh. Police said that the woman was humiliated by the village council members for being involved in an alleged murder. District collector Verma and other officials visited the village after the incident.
