PM Modi greets Sri Lankan people on 67th Independence Day

New Delhi, Feb 04 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended greetings to the people of Sri Lanka, on their 67th Independence Day. Prime Minister Modi took to twitter for extending his wishes. "On their Independence Day, my greetings to people of Sri Lanka. The bonds of history, culture and shared values that we share are unbreakable, tweeted Prime Minister Modi. "My best wishes for the development of Sri Lanka in the years to come. I look forward to welcoming President Sirisena later this month," he added. President Pranab Mukherjee in his message to Sri Lankan counterpart Maithripala Sirisena said India and Sri Lanka are close neighbours with a long standing relationship of friendship and cooperation based on shared linguistic, religious and cultural traditions. He also said that these ties have matured over time to embrace all areas of contemporary significance. He expressed confidence that the traditional bonds between India and Sri Lanka will expand and flourish to the mutual benefit of the two countries in the years to come. Feb 4, 2015

Thousands of school children take part in Terry Fox Fundraiser in Mumbai to fight cancer

Mumbai, Feb 01 (ANI): Around 10,000 school children took part in the 17th edition of Terry Fox Run on Sunday in Mumbai, to raise money to fight cancer. The annual charity event is organised in various cities commemorating the Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox, a cancer patient, who ran across Canada to raise money to fund research on cancer. Meanwhile, convenor of Terry Fox (India) Committee, Gul Kripalani appreciated the increased participation of people in the event over the years. The funds collected with these events go to Tata Memorial Hospital's cancer research projects who along with the Terry Fox Foundation in Canada conduct research on cancer. Feb 1, 2015

CBI arrests former congress MP Matang Singh in Saradha scam

New Delhi/ Kolkata, Feb 01 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested former Congress MP Matang Singh in Kolkata city in connection with Saradha chit fund scam case. The Enforcement Directorate too had reportedly questioned Singh in Delhi earlier. Spokesperson of CBI, Kanchan Prasad said Singh has been booked under the charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy. On Friday, CBI had questioned a powerful aide of West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Mukul Roy. Roy had so far avoided appearing before the CBI since he was summoned on January 12. Enthusiasts, students flock to bird fair in Jaipur

Jaipur, Jan 30 (ANI): Bird lovers and students flocked to the 18th annual Indian Birding Fair in pink city Jaipur. The two-day fair dedicated to biodiversity conservation is being held at the city's famed Man Sagar Lake. Though largely a citizen's initiative, it is being led by the Tourism and Wildlife Society of India. The fair, which was started in 1997 to protect the then dying lake, received positive response, year after year. Bird watchers showed children and other enthusiasts the birds through binoculars and telescopes. Visitors also attended seminars on conservation. Many overseas experts are expected to visit as well.
