Fifty Hindu couples tie nuptial knot at mass wedding in Pakistan

Karachi, Jan 03 (ANI): As many as fifty Hindu couples tied nuptial knot at a mass wedding ceremony in Pakistan's commercial capital Karachi. Donned in traditional wedding garments, the couples arrived for their big day as several hundred Hindu families gathered to attend the wedding ceremony held at the YMCA Ground in the city. The mass ceremony was organized by a non-governmental organisation, the Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC), for the couples who could not afford their marriage expenses. They tied the nuptial knot with the assistance of the community. Groom, Anil Kumar from Karachi, said he chose to get married in a mass wedding because his family was poor. Bride Usha Bai said her poor parents had to marry off three of her sisters earlier and they had been unable to afford her wedding expenses. Groom Prem Jee, who hailed from Sukkur town in the interior of Sindh, was delighted for him and others getting married. Jan 3, 2015

Calendar launched to promote peace between India, Pakistan

New Delhi, Dec 29 (ANI): A peace calendar was launched in New Delhi in order to improve frosty and tense relations between India and Pakistan. The calendar was launched by Aaghaz-e-Dosti (start of friendship), which is an initiative by India-based social outfit Mission Bhartiyam and Pakistan-based non-profit organization The Catalyst -TC, with an aim to build friendly relations between nuclear-armed neighbours. The launch was organised in collaboration with Indian Council for Talent Search and Competitions from India and SAMAAJ (Social Awareness Media and Art Junction) and SAWAN (South Asian Writers and Artists Network) from Pakistan. The 'Calendar for Peace and Love' features paintings of children from both the counties selected through a competition. This is the third edition of the calendar. Founder of Mission Bhartiyam, Ravi Nitesh, said through this calendar they are trying to connect the people of the two countries for friendship and brotherhood. Dec 29, 2014

Restoration work of first astro turf in Kashmir nears completion

Srinagar, Dec 27 (ANI): Kashmir will soon boast of a football astro turf as authorities gear up to complete the restoration work. The newly constructed stadium in Srinagar was badly damaged in September in the worst flooding in more than a century. The state's sports council, which is carrying out the repairs, has laid the turf again. Officials say the stadium will be ready in a month's time to host international football matches. Manager of Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council -Synthetic Turf Football Stadium, Sheikh Tulal, said the stadium will be thrown open to public once it gets the nod from FIFA (The Federation Internationale de Football Association).
