Cabinet gives nod to clean India mission

New Delhi, Sep 25 (ANI): Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave nod to clean India mission, 'Swacch Bharat'. Law and Justice Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, told reporters that number of plans were piloted during the Cabinet meet. The Programme consists of components for providing individual household, community and public toilets and municipal solid waste management in all 4041 statutory towns. The Cabinet also approved setting up of Clean Ganga Fund with voluntary contributions citizens, NRIs and Person of Indian Origin toward the conservation of the river Ganga. This initiative would supplement Namami Ganga Programme. The Cabinet also approved restructuring of the "Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan" (NBA) into "Swachh Bharat" Mission (rural) by a perfect synergy for clean Ganga (Ganges). Sep 25, 2014

India's maiden Mars mission successful

Bangalore, Sep 24 (ANI): India's maiden Mars mission was successfully accomplished after the spacecraft entered the orbit around the red planet early on Wednesday (September 24). Indian space agency ISRO's low-cost mission to Mars successfully entered Mars, crowning India as the first country to execute such a project in its maiden attempt. The spacecraft, called Mangalyaan, was launched in November last year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself closely watched the final phase of the launching at ISRO in Bangalore. The success of the Mars Orbiter Mission, lauded for its low price tag of $74 million, will boost India's five-decade-old space programme that Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to expand with better infrastructure and technology. Bill Gates lauds India's Action plan to reduce newborn mortality rate by 2030

New Delhi, Sep 19 (ANI): Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates praised India for the pioneering work in polio eradication and said the country's plan to achieve its target of reducing the newborn mortality rate to single digit before 2030 is possible. Bill Gates was accompanied by his wife Melinda Gates to attend the launch of health programme Indian Newborn Action Plan (INAP) in New Delhi, which was inaugurated by Health Minister Harsh Vardhan. In India the present death rate is 29 per 1,000 live births. Of the 2.8 million newborns who die at birth worldwide, India contributes 700,000. While speaking at the event, Bill said there are lessons to be learnt from India's fight against polio which may be applied against other diseases also. The World Health Organisation declared India free of the crippling polio virus in March, making the country's almost two-decade-long, multi-billion-dollar effort one of the biggest public health achievements in recent times. US call for greenfield investments in India

New Delhi, Sept 18 (ANI): In a bid to end the blockage of global trade, US top official called for green field investments in India through the 'Select USA' programme that will specifically concentrate on assisting new and expanding existing businesses. Speaking to reporters at CII Headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday Executive Director, Select USA, Vinai Thummalapally, invited competitive investors from India to USA. The director is on a seven-day visit to India and will be travelling across five cities – Delhi, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Mumbai and Bangalore – to boost trade investment in the US. Counsellor for Commercial Affair John M McCaslin was also present at the "Select USA" press conference organised by the US Department of Commerce. New Delhi/ Odisha, Sep 17 (ANI): Union Minister for Women And Child Development Maneka Gandhi, unveiled the logo of girl child campaign 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' (Save girl, educate girl) and said the programme will help sort out skewed sex ratio in 100 villages and produce desired results in two years. Gandhi launched the logo on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday, saying it was his pet scheme. She also said childline services will be provided in around 280 locations across the country in the coming days, besides opening new child rights protection hubs. Gandhi added that rules regarding child adoption in India were eased so that parents don't have to wait for years for custody.
