PM Modi pays tribute to Pt. Malaviya on his birth anniversary

New Delhi, Dec 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya on his 153th birth anniversary. Prime Minister Modi took to twitter for extending his wishes. "Tributes to Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya on his birth anniversary. A man ahead of his time, he devoted himself to nationalism and education," tweeted Prime Minister Modi. Respectfully addressed as 'Mahamana', he was an educationist and politician notable for his role in the independence movement and his espousal of Hindu nationalism. Malaviya is most remembered as the founder of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) at Varanasi in 1916, the largest residential university in Asia and one of the largest in the world. He also served as the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University from 1919-1938. Malaviya had held the position of President of the Indian National Congress on four occasions, 1909, 1913, 1919 and 1932. He left congress in 1934. Yesterday, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and educationist Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya were conferred with the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna. Dec 25, 2014

Nation remembers Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary

New Delhi, Dec 23 (ANI): Nation is remembering former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his 112th birth anniversary on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary. Modi took to twitter for extending his greetings. "A tall mass leader who dedicated his life to the welfare of farmers and the poor, I salute Chaudhary Charan Singh ji on his birth anniversary ," he wrote. Meanwhile, Vice-President Hamid Ansari and former Union Minister Ajit Singh paid floral tributes to Chaudhary Charan Singh at his Samadhi 'kisan Ghat". A painting exhibition has been organized at Kisan ghat in memory of the former prime minister. Singh was born in a Jat family in 1902 in village Noorpur of Hapur district in Uttar Pradesh. SC to monitor deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed a larger bench to hear petitions challenging a constitutional clause which sought to offer Indian citizenship to Bangladeshi immigrants. Several organisations from Assam have petitioned Supreme Court against Section 6A of the Indian Citizenship Act. This section offers Indian citizenship to Bangladeshis who crossed over to Assam till March 25, 1971. Millions of Bangladeshis crossed over to India during the 1971 Liberation War to escape the atrocities by Pakistani troops. The court also decided to personally monitor the Assam Accord signed in 1985 to screen and deport illegal immigrants. The 29-year-old Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) was signed between the then Indian government and the Assam Movement, which was agitating against the undocumented migrations into Assam. A lawyer representing the petitioners, Manish Goswami, hailed the Supreme Court order. Another lawyer Somiran Sharma said the court also asked the Indian government to hold talks with Bangladesh for the smooth deportation of Bangladehi immigrants. Dec 17, 2014
