India expects fruitful outcome from Russian President's visit: MEA

New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said on Thursday that the country is expecting a fruitful outcome from Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit. Putin arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday in an attempt to revive a historic friendship that has faded over the years, seeking to improve cooperation in energy, defence and nuclear power. He will have his first summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a time when Russia is at odds with the West over Ukraine, and its economy is stalling as oil prices tumble to their lowest point in five years. Akbaruddin said there is enormous potential in India-Russia nuclear energy cooperation. Putin and Modi are also expected to hold an interaction with Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of major companies. Srinagar fortified ahead of PM Modi's rally

Srinagar, Dec 08 (ANI): Srinagar has been put under a tight security cover on Monday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in the city to address a rally in the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium. The rally venue has been virtually taken over by security forces. CCTV cameras have been installed inside the stadium and Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel will monitor activities of the crowd with binoculars. Besides this, the top police officers have also been given the job to monitor the proceedings of the rally. The arrangements have especially been made in the wake of the recent militant attacks in the valley which killed at least 16 people including army jawans and civilians. The attack was followed by a gun battle in the state capital, Srinagar and a grenade blast in south Kashmir. Reportedly, Defence minister Manohar Parrikar is himself monitoring the situation in Kashmir. The third phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls is scheduled to take place tomorrow. Dec 8, 2014

Eric Garner protesters in US storm streets and stores against police violence

United States, Dec 06 (ANI): Dozens of protesters took to the streets of Washington DC in yet another day of demonstrations against police violence after grand juries in New York and Missouri decided not to indict police officers in the deaths of unarmed Black men. The protesters gathered and staged a symbolic "die in", shouting "I can't breathe," a phrase Eric Garner shouted when he was placed in a chokehold by a New York police officer. Demonstrators shouted "If I can't breathe. You can't breathe." Since Wednesday, when a New York grand jury cleared white police officer Daniel Pantaleo in case of chokehold death of Garner, the city has seen two nights of angry but largely peaceful demonstrations. Meanwhile, protesters also took to the streets and stores in Manhattan in protest against police violence. Tensions briefly erupted as police shoved protesters onto sidewalks. Dec 6, 2014
