Police inaction provokes gang raped teen to consume poison in Bijnor

Bijnor, Feb 23 (ANI): After sitting on a hunger strike for days against police's failure to arrest the four men who allegedly gang raped her, an 18-year-old girl attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. The victim’s mother alleged that her daughter was forced to take this extreme step as no action was taken after the complaint was filed with the police. Superintendent of Police VK Shekhar, said that action in any case can be taken only after gathering of evidence. Feb 23, 2014

Construction work on railway line from Jiribam to Tupul, in Manipur, in full swing

Manipur, Feb 11 (ANI): Work on the rail project connecting Manipur's Jiribam subdivision and Tupul in Tamenglong district, near Imphal, is in full swing. It is expected to be completed within three years at an estimated cost of around Rs 4,445 crores. A team of officials recently inspected the tunnels being constructed as part of the project. A total of 107 minor bridges, 7 major bridges and 3 Road Over Bridges and 2 Road under Bridges have been constructed so far. Four out of the 34 tunnels have also been completed. The girl had gone to the market to buy some household item when the accused attacked her and took the girl to a vacant room in the locality. The minor has suffered injuries and was taken to Safdarjung Hospital where she underwent a medical examination which confirmed rape. The accused has been arrested after an FIR was registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Vasant Vihar Police Station.
