Washington DC, Oct 04 (ANI): A female suspect who triggered lengthy car chase by the police from the White House to Capitol Hill on Thursday afternoon was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead, local police chief confirmed. Police said the black car that the suspect was driving struck a White House security barrier at first and then triggered the car chase and gunshots. The female suspect was struck by the gunfire and pronounced dead, said DC Metropolitan Chief Cathy Lanier. US Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine confirmed a one-year-old child was in the car at the time of the incident. The child was said to be in good condition. Oct 4, 2013

The study conducted by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM) said the fall in the rupee has made medical treatment cheaper for foreign patients by nearly 25-30 percent and has also led to a spur in the number of foreign patients arriving in India over the past six months. Nokia in Tax Dispute with Indian Authorities

Finnish mobile handset manufacturer Nokia is in a dispute with the Indian tax authorities over a tax bill of Rs.2080 crore. Gaya, Sept 28(ANI): Devout Hindus have begun to gather at temples and on river banks in India to observe 'Pitru Paksha' the annual fortnight-long ritual of paying homage known as 'Pind Daan' (offering food) to souls of departed ancestors and pray for their salvation. Scores of families from far and near arrived at the pilgrim centre of Gaya in eastern state of Bihar on Tuesday to offer this ritual `Pind Daan'. Guided by priests they performed the religious rituals on the banks of River Ganga and other temples located in the city. 'Pitru Paksha' as per the Hindu lunar almanac known as Panchanga usually falls in the month of September or October. Certain devotees even get their heads tonsured on the occasion as mark of their respect for the departed souls. The food is usually cooked in silver or copper vessels and placed on banana leaves. Devotees believe that once the ritual is performed, the souls of their ancestors shall be relieved of all the painful sins and they would be freed from the cycle of rebirths. The offerings are also believed to cure diseases as well as infertility among childless couples apart from driving away evil souls.
