Coal scam: SC should look into each block allotment case by case, says Majid Memon

New Delhi, Sept 1 (ANI): Ahead of the hearing on the coal scam in the Supreme Court, senior advocate Majid Memon on Monday said the apex court will have to undertake an exercise of finding out each block allotment case by case. The Supreme Court had earlier declared that all allocations made by the Screening Commission and the government between 1992 and 2009 as illegal and arbitrary. The Supreme Court had deemed more than 200 allocations to be illegal. The Supreme Court had scheduled a hearing on the first of September to decide on those allocations where the mining work has already begun. It may be mentioned that a CAG report on coal block allocation had stated that nearly 150 coalfields were allotted to private and state-run firms without transparency and objectivity between 2005 and 2009. Traders in Kashmir demand boost in cross-border trade with Pakistan

Poonch, Aug 30 (ANI): Traders in Jammu and Kashmir called for increase in cross-border trade between New Delhi and Islamabad. At present, the cross-border trade stands at 850 crore rupees. The two nuclear-armed countries have fought two wars over Kashmir but had sought to ease access and commerce in a region at the heart of more than 60 years of hostility. An approved list of items is traded between both the countries. At present, this list includes 21 items but traders are looking to raise the number of products. The most widely exported crops from the Indian side are bananas, red chili, cumin and tamarind while imports from the Pakistani side include dry fruit and mangoes. Both sides hope closer integration of Pakistan with India's giant economy would help lay the ground for a lowering of political tensions between them. Aug 30, 2014
