Police arrest 2 accused in gang-rape of teen girls in Badaun

Badaun, May 30 (ANI): Police on Friday arrested two of the suspects who allegedly gang-raped two teenage girls and hanged them from a tree in Uttar Pradesh. The two cousins, aged 14 and 15, who were from a low-caste Dalit community, went missing from their village home in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district when they went out to go to the toilet on Tuesday evening. The following morning, villagers found the bodies of the two teenagers hanging from a mango tree in a nearby orchard. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Badaun, Atul Saxena, said two of the suspects have been arrested and the hunt for the third one is still on. The post-mortem report confirmed the two minors were raped and died from the hanging. May 30, 2014

The girls were allegedly gang-raped and later hanged from a tree in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district on Wednesday. The two girls, who were cousins aged 14 and 15, went missing from their house on Tuesday night. Their bodies were found hanging from a tree in Katra village on Wednesday morning. The incident triggered protests in the area with villagers alleging police apathy following which an FIR was registered against seven persons including constables Sarvesh Yadav and Rakshapal Yadav, who were suspended. As soon as the news spread, villagers gathered at the site and claimed that police had refused to register an FIR on Tuesday night. Four people, including a constable were arrested on Thursday.
