Nagpur, Nov 1 (ANI): In a show of strength, the Indian air force (IAF) personnel put up an impressive air show on Thursday by advanced light helicopters in western Nagpur city as part of the 81st anniversary celebration of the IAF. The Indian Air force personnel carried out sequences of maneuvers and different formations with criss-cross flying, sending the crowd cheering. Earlier on Saturday the Indian Air Force's (IAF's) latest strategic transport aircraft, the C-17 Globemaster, undertook its first sortie towards transporting of relief materials, including specialist army vehicles and ambulance from bases in central India to Bhubaneswar, ahead of the arrival of Cyclone Phailin which struck the east coast of the country. Flash flood maroon thousands of villagers in Odisha

Bhubaneshwar, Oct 28 (ANI): Around 10,000 people were marooned after Cyclone Phailin, due to incessant rainfall in Odisha, triggering a rise in floodwaters, inundating houses, clogging roads and paralysing normal life. Non-stop rains in the cyclone-hit Gajapati district of the state have led to the increase in water levels of the rivers. An emergency officer, Basanta Kumar Hota said rescue operations were going on in 654 villages affected by floods and people were being shifted to safer destinations. The flash floods have made life miserable for the people in Gajapati district. A Resident, Dhanalaxmi said though the relief supplies were being distributed by the administration but still food had not reached many of the stranded families in the villages. Oct 28, 2013

Phailin aftermath: At least 16 dead due to floods in Odisha

Puri, Oct 26 (ANI): At least 16 people have died owing to floods in Odisha, where the situation remained grim even as major rivers were receding on Saturday. Post the Phailin cyclone, Odisha has been struck by floods now, which have resulted in several villagers becoming homeless. As per the latest report, a breach in the embankment of the river Malaguni resulted in flooding of the Kanas block. Kanas block is located in the Puri district of Bhubneshwar. The government has claimed that several boats were put into service to rescue the villagers. The rescued villagers have been served with flattened rice, molasses, drinking water and medicines.
