Shiv Sena seek ban on Aamir Khan's 'PK', says it hurts Hindu sentiments

Lucknow/ Ludhiana, Dec 23 (ANI): Shiv Sena held a protest to demand ban for Bollywood actor Aamir Khan's newly released film 'PK', saying it hurts the sentiments of Hindu community by mocking gods. A member of Shiv Sena, Rajeev Tandon while protesting in Ludhiana city of Punjab, said Hindu organisations want the movie to be banned from playing in theatres. Bollywood filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani's 'PK', the most anticipated Bollywood film of the year, presents latest social cause - religion and the commercialisation of it. The movie also references the Hindu-Muslim divide, conversions, and rich godmen. Meanwhile, lawyer Ranjana Agnihotri who also filed public interest litigation (PIL) against the film, said the filmmakers have hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community. Dec 23, 2014

After eradicating Polio, Bachchan stands up to eradicate 'TB' from India

Mumbai, Dec 22 (ANI): Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan joined hands with government of Maharashtra to launch an anti-Tuberculosis (TB) campaign. The anti-TB campaign has been titled 'TB Harega, Desh Jeetega'. The campaign involves a range of multimedia content aimed at generating awareness about prevention, timely diagnosis and treatment of TB. According to an annual report of Federal TB Division, titled 'TB India 2014', India accounted for one fourth of the total TB cases in the world. Bachchan, who has been made brand ambassador for the campaign, revealed that he himself was a victim of TB in the past. Also present at the event were the state Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, and chief of Hindu right wing Shiv Sena party, Uddhav Thackeray. According to estimates, almost 40 per cent of the Indian population is infected with TB bacteria out of which a vast majority suffers from latent rather than active TB. Every year in India, TB infects around 2.3 million people and kills 300,000. Bachchan is also the goodwill ambassador for polio UNICEF campaign. As a part of this initiative, Bachchan campaigned extensively encouraging people to ensure that their children get Polio drops regularly. Gabbard met chairman of National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) product council Ravi Gururaj and interacted with pioneers of IT sector and entrepreneurs. The Congresswoman said that US had more defence ties with India than any other country. She added that a country should have stability for strong national defence, which is also important for economic development.
