Snowfall is a boon for northern states in high altitudes as the inflow of tourists increases during snowfall which boosts the tourism industry. The snow-covered Manali city in the state ushered in a cheerful mood, just days before Christmas. On the eve of Christmas and New Year, people rush out of their homes and book hotels for a perfect celebration in the snow laden tourist destinations. Residents, tourists welcome snowfall in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, Dec 14 (ANI): Residents and tourists in Himachal Pradesh welcomed the fresh spell of snowfall with much delight on Sunday (December 14). Heavy snowfall was seen in the hill towns of Manali and Shimla which are popular tourist destinations for Indians and foreigners alike. A resident of Shimla, Gulzar Ahmed, who works as a porter, welcomed snowfall as it will bring business to the city. Tourists were seen enjoying the snowfall and throwing snowballs on each other. A tourist from Punjab, Dimple Goyal, said the place looks heaven due to white sheet of snow everywhere. Located in the tropics, most of the northern India witnesses very hot summers and largely temperate winters. Kufri, Dec 14 (ANI): Tourists threw snowballs at each other and enjoyed winter season's first snowfall in hill town of Kufri. Snowfall in Kufri in Himachal Pradesh delighted tourists, who were earlier disappointed due to no snow. Every year, hundreds of domestic tourists throng Kufri to enjoy snowfall. Meanwhile, director of meteorological department of Himachal Pradesh, Manmohan Singh, said the town will witness snowfall till December 24. He added that other districts of the state including Naldehra, Fagu, Narkanda and Kinnaur will also witness snowfall. Christians take out procession to mark Virgin Mary festival in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, Dec 09 (ANI): Thousands of devotees gathered for a procession in Visakhapatnam to celebrate Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The festival holds great significance for Catholics. Feast of the Immaculate Conception marks the special way in which Virgin Mary herself was conceived. Catholics believe that Mary was made immune from sin at the moment of her conception. The Feast celebrates Mary's creation by normal biological means, however god acted upon her soul, keeping her immaculate at the time of her conception. Devotees took out a procession and walked to a chapel to celebrate of the festival, which also indicates that the countdown to Christmas has begun.
