Police nab three Maoists in Jharkhand

Simdega, Jan 01 (ANI): Police arrested three Maoists belonging to People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the Communist party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), and seized cash and weapon-making equipments in Jharkhand. A black-coloured SUV car used by the accused was also seized. Police said PLFI was running an illegal weapon-making factory in Simdega district and the trio was taking the seized material there before being intercepted. Jan 1, 2015

Security forces destroy illegal marijuana cultivation in Tripura

Tripura, Dec 31 (ANI): In a joint operation carried out by security forces and the administration, thousands of marijuana plants grown illegally in hundreds of acres in remote areas of Tripura were destroyed. Acting on a tip-off, paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), state police, excise department and state administration found illegal marijuana cultivation across the hillocks in Jarulbachi village. The total amount of Bangladesh bound destroyed marijuana is worth more than rupees 10 million and the operation is still continuing. According to officials, there are rackets involved in illegal cultivation of cannabis particularly in the bordering area where habitation is less and presence of administration very scanty. Usually the poor border population is involved in the illegal cultivation and the final harvest is smuggled to neighbouring Bangladesh from where it goes to Middle East market as it provides hefty returns. Sanjay Dutt accused in Mumbai blast out on 14-day furlough

Mumbai, Dec 24 (ANI): Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who is serving sentence in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case, was released from the Yerwada Central Jail in Pune on Wednesday. Dutt was granted 14-day furlough by the prison authorities on Tuesday. After being released, the actor departed for his home in Mumbai in the afternoon. Dutt, who is serving a five-year sentence for illegal possession and destruction of an AK-56 rifle before the 1993 Mumbai blasts, had applied for leave in November this year to be able to spend Christmas and New Year with his family. Fourteen-day furlough can be extended for another two weeks and with strong reason, can even be stretched for 120 days.
