Politicians express outrage after Indian origin boy shot dead in US and Hindu temple vandalized

New Delhi, Feb 17 (ANI): In a shocking case of intolerance, a Hindu temple was vandalized with hate speech in Washington. The incident happened when unidentified miscreants sprayed swastika and painted "Get Out" on one of the walls of the temple in the Seattle Metropolitan area. The incident shocked the community in the area, prompting authorities to launch an investigation. In a separate incident, a 28-year-old Indian-American, who was shot by unknown gunmen in his family-owned liquor shop in the US, has succumbed to his injuries. Amit Patel from Edison was shot and killed in New Jersey inside Roseway Liquors in Irvington on Sunday. Politicos have expressed outrage over the incidents. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday said it is extremely important to maintain religious harmony in the U.S. Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Sambit Patra also said that the law should take its own course and the culprits should be punished. Devotees across India throng temples to mark 'Mahashivaratri'

New Delhi/ Haridwar/ Allahabad, Feb 17 (ANI): Thousands of devout Hindus thronged temples and congregated at the banks of holy rivers across India to celebrate festival of 'Mahashivaratri', better known as Lord Shiva's wedding anniversary, with religious fervour on Tuesday. The Hindu festival of Mahashivaratri is celebrated every year, as devotees offer golden apple, fruits, milk and observe fast in reverence of Lord Shiva. The magnificently decorated 'Gauri Shankar temple' in New Delhi witnessed crowd of devotees, as they flocked in large numbers to offer prayers to Lord Shiva. The temples in Uttar Pradesh immersed into devotional spirit with devotees offering prayer and lighting 'diyas' or earthen lamps to mark the festivity of Mahashivaratri. The pilgrims and devotees chant holy words--"Bol Bum" and "Har Har Mahadev"-- in praise of Lord Shiva, as they took holy dip at the river bank. Devotees also thronged temples in Allahabad city of Uttar Pradesh with assortment of religious offerings like 'belpatra' (aegle marmelos leaf) flowers, honey and milk on the 'Shiva Lingam' (a representation of Hindu deity Shiva) while others made sculpture of lingam with sand at the river bank. Annual Maulana Azad theatre fest in Aurangabad promotes message of unity & communal amity in country

Aurangabad, Feb 16 (ANI): Maulana Abul Kalam Azad alias Maulana Azad played a significant role during India's struggle for freedom from British colonial rule. Besides being a freedom fighter, his message of brotherhood and amity through his literary work is still being prevailed today. A theatre group in Aurangabad city of Maharashtra is one such example which seeks to convey the message of former freedom fighter through their plays. What fascinates the most about this theatre group is that it includes artists belonging to Hindu community, who perform in Urdu language, as Azad was Muslim by religion and his work are Urdu based. Through the play artists of the group convey the message of Azad, which he aimed at spreading while living. The theatre presentation by this group makes us believe that people like Maulana Azad devoted his entire life in strengthening the spirit of communal harmony, which has been our tradition from centuries.
