Court extends police custody of Beant Singh's assassin

Patiala, Jan 23 (ANI): A local court in Patiala city extended police custody of assassin of former Chief Minister of Punjab, Beant Singh. On January 06, Thai police arrested Gurmeet Singh, also known as Jagtar Singh Tara, a former member of the Babbar Khalsa International Sikh separatist group, convicted of involvement in a bomb attack in India two decades ago that killed 18 people, including Beant Singh. Tara's lawyer Baljinder Sodhi critcised the court's decision. Meanwhile, President of Shiromani Akali Dal, Simranjit Singh Mann and his party members protested against the extended police remand and shouted slogans outside the court premises. Tara was jailed for life in 2007 for his involvement in the 1995 attack outside a government complex in Chandigarh city. Jan 23, 2015

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Hindu Mahasabha will be installing statues of Nathuram Godse, assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, in four districts of Karnataka on the death anniversary of Gandhi. President of Karnataka unit of Hindu Mahasabha Swami Pranavananda Giri said that the organisation demands from the Central government to replace Mahatma Gandhi’s image from currency notes by images of patriotic leaders like Maharana Pratap or Godse. New Delhi, Jan 06 (ANI): Former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh's assassin, Jagtar Singh Hawara, was arrested from Thailand on Tuesday. The grandson of Beant Singh, Ravneet Singh Bittu said that it was a welcome incident and demanded strict punishment for the guilty. Meanwhile, BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi said that the incident shows that anybody who commits a serious crime will not be spared. MEA assures logical conclusion after arrest of Beant Singh's assassin in Thailand

New Delhi, Jan 06 (ANI): MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Tuesday confirmed that Former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh's assassin, Jagtar Singh Hawara, has been arrested in Thailand.
