Bridge collapse kills three in Himachal Pradesh

Hamirpur, Aug 14 (ANI): Three people were killed on Thursday after a bridge collapsed in Jahu area of Hamirpur disrict in Himachal Pradesh due to heavy rainfall. Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) Bhoranj Balwan Chand said rescue teams were working and one body was pulled out from the river. The Disaster Response Force teams reached the accident site and began relief work. Search for more bodies is underway. Aug 14, 2014

SC relaxes norms on Dahi Handi, allows participation of children above 12 years

New Delhi, Aug 14 (ANI): In a relief for the Dahi Handi mandals in Mumbai, the Supreme Court has relaxed the norms and restrictions put by the Bombay High Court on formation of the human pyramids. The court has also said that children below the age of 12 cannot participate in it. The Bombay High Court had banned the children below 18 years of age from participating in the formation of human pyramids during the festival and had put a height limit of 20 feet to the pyramids. Odisha, Aug 12 (ANI): People in Odisha continued to face difficulties as floods triggered by heavy rain marooned residents of 15 villages in Sonepur district on Tuesday. Floods triggered by days of heavy rain in Odisha have killed 45 people and left more than 300,000 people cut off from basic services. More than 300 villages in the state have been left surrounded by floodwater, after major rivers such as the Mahanadi, burst their banks submerging large swathes of farmland, immersing roads and sweeping away bridges. More than 100,000 people had made their way to government relief camps where they were receiving shelter and cooked meals. Tribal people in flood-hit Odisha blame authorities for inaction

Cuttack, Aug 11 (ANI): Tribal people in flood-hit Odisha have blamed the state authorities for not providing any relief to them even as the situation continues to remain grim in most of the places. Reportedly, the death toll climbed to 45 and over 3.29 lakh people were affected as floods devastated low lying areas of Odisha. In Cuttack district, a flood survivor, Brundaban Azad, said the authorities were not doing anything to prevent diseases. Though the floodwater receded in some place, 20000 people from 445 villages of Cuttack are still marooned.
