Floods and sand deposits ruin farmer s crops in Amritsar

Amritsar, Sep 28 (ANI): Sand deposits left by the flooded river Ravi in fields leaves farmers’ crops damaged in Amritsar district of Punjab. Heavy rainfalls over-flooded the river on the border belt of Dera Baba Nanak and Ajnala sector, burring thousand acres of land. Farmers living in the area cultivate around 10,000 acres of fertile land which has been rendered useless for two to four years because of the sand deposits left by the river. A farmer Major Manmohan Singh said that his entire crop has been damaged. Reportedly, the farmers are asking for government’s help in removing the sand from their fields and provide electricity connections for tube wells so that the affected agricultural land could be made fit for cultivation. Ravi Shankar Prasad sweeps his office premises taking part in Clean India Mission

New Delhi, Sep 26 (ANI): Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Friday swept his department premises along with his officers in New Delhi as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi pet project 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' (Clean India Mission). The NDA Government pledges to completely clean India by October 2019, coinciding with 150th birth anniversary of freedom fighter and peace icon Mahatma Gandhi. As a part of its ambitious plan, the Modi government will spend nearly rupees 2000 billion in five years. Prasad said the government was committed to the mission and proposed to clean railway station in Patna on October 02. Mumbai, Sept 26 (ANI): Ketan Mehta's 'Rang Rasiya', starring Randeep Hooda and Nandana Sen had a musical music launch in Mumbai recently. The event saw live performances by singers Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher, Sunidhi Chauhan, Roop Kumar Rathod, Rajeshwari Pathak and Anwarbhai, the king of Rajasthani folk music. Based on the book Raja Ravi Varma by Marathi author Ranjit Desai, the film chronicles the life of India's famous painter Raja Ravi Varma. The film is being released after six long years because of its controversial subject. The movie also features Nandana Sen, Vipin Sharma and Paresh Rawal. Cabinet gives nod to clean India mission

New Delhi, Sep 25 (ANI): Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave nod to clean India mission, 'Swacch Bharat'. Law and Justice Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, told reporters that number of plans were piloted during the Cabinet meet. The Programme consists of components for providing individual household, community and public toilets and municipal solid waste management in all 4041 statutory towns. The Cabinet also approved setting up of Clean Ganga Fund with voluntary contributions citizens, NRIs and Person of Indian Origin toward the conservation of the river Ganga. This initiative would supplement Namami Ganga Programme. The Cabinet also approved restructuring of the "Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan" (NBA) into "Swachh Bharat" Mission (rural) by a perfect synergy for clean Ganga (Ganges). Sep 25, 2014

New Delhi, Sep 23 (ANI): Communications and Information Technology (IT) Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad visions India to prospect vastly in e-commerce. Prasad believes that the country is sitting on the cusp of a big digital revolution as National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) will herald a digital connectivity even in the villages. The other big focus area is the Digital India project, aimed at providing citizen services online. The project includes the NOFN, which will connect 60,000 gram Panchayats this year. Prasad on Tuesday told business lobbyists of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) in New Delhi that digital empowerment of citizens is a core motive.
