Greenpeace India denies receiving government notice on foreign funding

New Delhi/ Tamil Nadu, June 20 (ANI): Executive director Greenpeace-India, Samit Aich denied media reports that the central government had served notice to it on its foreign funding. India has asked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to tighten controls on moving funds from abroad into Greenpeace's accounts. The government has asked the RBI to obtain its permission before releasing funding from Netherlands-based Greenpeace International and the US-based Climate Works Foundation, both contributors to Greenpeace India. Greenpeace India receives about 60 percent of its funding from donors in India and about 38 percent from Greenpeace International. Jun 20, 2014

Railway Minister holds pre budget meeting to discuss fare hike and FDI

New Delhi, June 19 (ANI): Railway Minister Sadanand Gowda held a meeting with officials in New Delhi to discuss about fare hike and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in railways. Gowda addressed all General Managers (GM), Divisional Railway Managers (DRM) and other senior officials on Thursday to finalise the way forward. He said that Indian railways was short of resources and that railways is looking for funds mobilisation through Foreign Direct Invetsment. Ahead of the Rail budget, Gowda while addressing all heads of departments spoke about his priorities and the governement's vision in terms of hiking passenger fares and allowing foreign direct investment. West Bengal/ New Delhi, June 18 (ANI): Trade union and officials held a tripartite meeting in Kolkata in a bid to rehabilitate the country's iconic Ambassador Car workers and discussed the back wage payment issue of nullified employees. The meeting was held between Ambassador Car company management, trade union and government officials. Earlier, the maker of the iconic Ambassador car- long hailed as the ultimate choice of Indian officialdom -halted its production on May 24, citing weak demand and a lack of funds, casting a shadow on the future of a vehicle, the appearance of which has essentially remained unchanged for more than five decades.
