Poonch, Sep 11 (ANI): A major landslide in Poonch district of Kashmir trapped many and rendered thousands homeless. The landslide, attributed to heavy rains, has disconnected the area from the rest of the state and is posing a major threat to relief and rescue operations. Indian Army, which is carrying out rehabilitation and restoration work in the valley, say work is in progress on a war footing to restore the line of communication. Rajouri, Sep 11 (ANI): Medical camps were organized to assist flood-affected people as flood water began to recede, giving rescue teams a chance to evacuate thousands of villagers stranded by the heaviest rainfall in 50 years in the heavily militarized and disputed region of Kashmir. The Indian army established medical camps in flood-affected villages to treat injured and sick people and also distributed medicines. New Delhi, Sep 11 (ANI): Bringing relief to the bar owners, Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Kerala Government to maintain a status quo till 30th of September in the Liquor ban case and prohibited it from shutting down the non-five star hotels. The SC also asked the Kerala High Court to decide expeditiously on the pleas challenging the government's new liquor policy. Petitioner Harish Viren said that they are not against absolute ban of liquor, but the state is doing partiality by banning the four star hotels and not putting ban on the five star hotels and government co-operations. Srinagar, Sep 11 (ANI): Relief operations gathered steam as flood waters have started receding in Kashmir, giving rescue teams a chance to reach tens of thousands of villagers stranded by the heaviest rainfall in half a century. Indian Air Force has been carrying out extensive winching operation and now is also engaged in air dropping of food items. Meanwhile, a PDP leader said the magnitude of destruction and devastation is unprecedented. The Indian army has evacuated 76,000 people from their homes, mosques and government buildings. Bridge constructed by Army in Jammu brings respite to flood- hit area

Jammu, Sep 10 (ANI): The Army in Jammu built a temporary bridge linking flood- ravaged villages to the city, providing relief to the people after the region's worst floods for 50 years destroyed a number of key crossings and wreaked havoc in the area. Due to heavy floods the bridge on river Tawi was completely damaged. Nearly 45000 people living in about 45 villages in the surrounding area were cut off from the city. The Army and Air Force dropped relief material in the area, while Army boats helped people to commute to the other side of the river. Rajouri, Sep 10 (ANI): Distressed victims of the flood fury in Rajouri district of Kashmir cried for help on Wednesday as they were rendered homeless and heartless with collapsed houses and damaged crops. People of the valley demanded the government to provide free ration and expedite relief operations. On the Indian side of the heavily militarised Line of Control (LoC) that divides the Himalayan region, the city of Srinagar lies submerged along with more than 2,000 villages. Medical camps in Rajouri have been providing first aid and emergency medicines to flood victims. The Indian Air Force air-dropped more than 550 tonnes of relief material and 80 medical teams have established emergency health services in government schools and state-run health care centres.
