Iraqi forces advance against Islamic State in Mosul offensive

As part of the Iraqi governments offensive on Mosul, Iraqi Kurdish military forces have started to clear several villages held by Islamic State. Some 30,000 Iraqi government forces, Kurdish Peshmerga militia and Sunni tribal fighters are expected to take part in the offence to drive up to 8,000 Islamic State militants out of Mosul. John Kerry to meet European foreign ministers in London to discuss Syria

US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in London to talk about Syria. He is meeting his counterparts from Germany, France and the UK to share “fresh ideas”.On Saturday, he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and ministers from Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.Kerry hopes the talks will lead to a ceasefire in the Syrian civil war.
