Jayalalithaa to stay in jail for now, bail petition adjourned till Oct 6

Bangalore, Sept 30 (ANI): In a major setback for AIADMK chief, J Jayalalithaa, Karantaka High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of her bail plea petition till Monday. Though the bail plea has been admitted by the court, the hearing on the petition will not take place before Monday. Following the deferring of the hearing till Monday, Jayalalithaa, who is lodged in VVIP cell number 23 at Parappana Agrahara central prison in Bangalore, will have to continue in jail for at least a week. Chennai/ Bangalore, Sept 30 (ANI): AIADMK Chief Jayalalithaa's supporters in Tamil film industry staged a silent protest in Chennai on Tuesday. Actor Srikanth said that the protest comes in sympathy and solidarity to Jayalalithaa and that the whole of the state look forward to her coming back. O Panneerselvam to be next Tamil Nadu CM

Chennai, Sept 28 (ANI): A day after a special court in Bangalore convicted and sentenced J Jayalalithaa to four years imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case, O Panneerselvam was chosen to be Tamil Nadu's new chief minister. The decision was taken at a meeting of AIADMK MLAs at the party headquarters in Chennai on Sunday. Earlier, J Jayalalithaa had conveyed to senior party colleagues that her choice as the state's next CM is her close aide O Panneerselvam. Panneerselvam was also earlier elevated to the position of chief minister in 2001 when Jayalalithaa had to step down following her conviction in the Tansi land deal case; she was subsequently acquitted. FIR lodged against Karunanidhi-Stalin over DMK-AIADMK clash

Chennai, Sep 28 (ANI): Chennai police on Sunday filed FIRs against DMK Chief M Karunanidhi and his son MK Stalin following the clashes between their supporters and AIADMK workers. Three FIRs have been lodged at the Royapettah Police Station against the two leaders and their supporters. The FIRs were lodged after some AIADMK workers alleged that some DMK supporters attacked them with deadly weapons near Karunanidhi's residence while they were protesting against DMK Chief. AIADMK workers were protesting against the DMK leaders alleging them for foisting the Disproportionate Assets case that led to the conviction of AIADMK Chief Jayalalithaa by a Bangalore special court yesterday. AIADMK supporters protest against Jayalalithaa's arrest, alleges false case by DMK

Bangalore/ Chennai, Sep 28 (ANI): AIADMK supporters on Sunday came out on protest in Chennai city of Tamil Nadu against the Bangalore special court's decision to sentence state Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for 4-years of jail in disproportionate assets case. Supporters shouted slogans and demanded release of Jayalalithaa. Security has been tightened as party supporters protested outside AIADMK Headquarters in Chennai. Jayalalithaa is the first state chief minister to have been ousted from the post because of a wealth case. She has been convicted of obtaining assets worth almost Rs. 66 crores through dishonest means during her first tenure as chief minister from 1991 to 1996.
