Aircraft carrying Indian nurses from Iraq reach Mumbai, families wait at Kochi airport for reunion

Kochi, July 05 (ANI): The special Air India plane carrying 46 Indian nurses and 137 others from strife-torn Iraq lands in Mumbai at 8:43 am, an airport official said on Saturday. The anxiety of the parents and relatives increased as the aircraft carrying the nurses got delayed by over five hours. The family members of 46 Indian nurses are eagerly waiting at the airport in Kochi city as they are expected to arrive by Air India Flight by 11:45 am Saturday. Non Resident Keralites Association (NORKA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sudeep said that his organisation have made arrangement for providing transportation from the airport to the place of residence. Officials claim Indian workers tortured in Iraq for posting video appealing for help

Nawanshahr, July 05 (ANI): Indian officials claimed that a few citizens were tortured by their employer in the strife-torn Iraq for posting a video in which they appealed New Delhi to evacuate them. In the video they also mentioned that they were receiving low wages and nobody is helping them to get back to India. Doctor Jasbir Singh, who is treating a victim named Rajkumar, said he was subjected to brute torture and is in a state of shock. Rajkumar, along with 14 other workers recently returned to his home at Nawanshahr town in Punjab, and has sustained injuries on his hand and chest. New Delhi, July 04 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday reassured that as many as 116 Indians including 46 nurses from Kerala will reach India on Saturday morning. MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that an Air India aircraft has flown from New Delhi and is expected to reach Erbil, Iraq, late on Friday. Assuring that the government was putting in all efforts in ensuring the safety of Indian nationals, MEA said that a joint secretary level officer will co-ordinate with authorities in Iraq for the safety of Indians there. Even as process is underway to bring back as many as 116 Indians from the war-torn country, 39 Indian nationals continue to be held captive in Mosul. Tintu is one among the 46 nurses, who were stranded in Tikrit and now have been moved to an unknown destination. Tintu’s father, M. Thankan, appealed the governments to take adequate steps for early return of his daughter. Tintu's mother Thankan said her daughter had told her over the telephone that she was safe and shifted to a different place. Indian workers stranded in Iraq return safely to New Delhi

New Delhi, July 4 (ANI): A group of Indian workers stranded in Iraq made a safe return to New Delhi on Friday with the help of the country_s embassy. The nationals flew back to India in the early hours of the day with the support of the embassy officials after they claimed that the companies they worked with refused to send them back. The workers heaved a sigh of relief and embraced their families waiting for them at the international airport in the national capital. They also said their friends and colleagues were still stuck in the turmoil-hit Iraq and the situation in Bagdhad was getting worse with each passing day.
