NCP holds silent protest' against glorification of Godse

Mumbai, Jan 30 (ANI): Workers and leaders of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) held a silent protest on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary on Friday against those who glorified his murderer, Nathuram Godse. Gandhi was born on October 02, 1869 in Porbandar in Gujarat. On January 30, 1948, he was shot dead by a Hindu fanatic, Nathuram Godse, less than a year after India gained its freedom. On Friday, the party members observed silence, remembering Gandhi. NCP leader Nawab Malik said the NCP would not keep silent on the conspiracy to dilute the ideologies of father of the nation. Gandhi's ideologies still continue to be imbibed the world over. His statues can be found across the country and nearly every town has at least one street named after him. Jan 30, 2015

Tamil newspaper receives terrorist threat, Condemning reactions flow

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Weeks after 14 people died in an attack at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo's office in Paris, a threat letter for a similar attack has been received in Tamil Nadu. Condemning reactions flowed on Wednesday after a Tamil daily, Dinamalar, received a letter: supposedly from terrorist outfit Al-Qaeda, reading "Yesterday Charlie Hebdo, tomorrow Dinamalar". The letter mentions "the base moment of the Al-Qaeda" as the sender. DMK leader TKS Elangovan said that this is against the freedom of press. Congress leader Manish Tewari condemned the threat saying that freedom of press should not be attacked. Defence Expert Lt Gen (Retd) Raj Kadyan said that the investigation agencies should take note whether the threat was real or only meant to create hoax. Jan 28, 2015

US President Barack Obama's remarks on religious freedom draw reactions

New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Barack Obama's remarks which emphasized on the need of religious freedom. BJP leader Sambit Patra on Wednesday said that Obama by his remarks meant that India and US have accommodated various religions and hence are successful democracies. All India Imam Organization Chief Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi also dismissed that the remarks of the US president marked a rebuke ton anyone. Congress leader PC Chacko said that Congress has been talking about religious freedom and it is for the BJP to understand. Leaders from other political parties also expressed similar sentiments. New Delhi, Jan 28 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai on his birth anniversary. The Prime Minister took to twitter to honour the leader. "Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai was a unique personality who was ahead of his time. I salute this proud son of India on his birth anniversary," he posted.
