Two die in building collapse in Bangalore

Bangalore, Oct 8 (ANI): A building collapsed in Bangalore on early Thursday morning killing two, including a child. Residents of Ulsoor region, which is one of the oldest localities in Bangalore, woke up at 1.30 am to resounding crash of the building, which was weakened due to heavy rains. Authorities rushed to the spot and two people were rescued. The collapse also brought down an adjoining house. A resident, Geeta, said that the building was more than ten years old and was expected to fall any moment. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, the city’s civic body was blamed for not taking timely action. Oct 9, 2014

Rescue operation underway to save nine-year-old Bangalore girl washed away in drain

Bangalore, Oct 07 (ANI): Rescue operation is underway to save a nine-year-old girl who was washed away in storm water drain in Bangalore city of Karnataka. The girl, Geethalakshmi, is a native of Tamil Nadu and had come to stay with her grandfather in Bangalore. A local legislator, Satish Reddy, said she had fallen into an open slab while walking with her grandfather during night time. Reddy added that a special fire team is searching for the girl inside the drain, which is 25 feet wide and 1 kilometre long. Oct 7, 2014

Bangalore/ Chennai, Oct 07 (ANI): As Karnataka High Court is all set to give pronouncement in bail plea by Jayalalithaa, the court witnessed high security in order to avoid any untoward incident after the pronouncement. Prohibitory orders under section 144 are also imposed around the court premises in Bangalore. The court is hearing the plea filed by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and her three associates convicted in a disproportionate assets case. Meanwhile, Chennai witnessed protests as well as prayers from AIADMK leaders and Jayalalithaa's supporters. Many were seen taking part in a special prayer 'hawan' for the release of party chief.
