New Delhi, Sept 28 (ANI): Bollywood actor Salman Khan who is known for big heart and runs Being Human NGO has reportedly donated Rs.50 lakh for relief and rehabilitation of Jammu and Kashmir flood victims. A leading daily quoted a source close to the actor as saying, "Given that Salman does a lot of charity and he runs the NGO Being Human, it's not surprising that he has stepped up for a noble cause. What happened in Jammu and Kashmir was a big natural disaster and he wanted to lend a helping hand." This is not the first time when the actor came forward to fulfill his social responsibility. Civil societies extend relief materials to flood affected J and K

Rajouri, Sep 27 (ANI): A New Delhi based non-profit charitable trust, Thakurdwara, collected and sent the much needed relief material to Rajouri district of flood- affected Jammu. Three trucks carrying relief material worth rupees 50 lakh reached Rajouri. Relief material included shelter kits, bed sheets, towels, milk powder and tarpaulin sheets. Both the Indian and Pakistani sides of the disputed Himalayan region have seen extensive flooding this month, with Srinagar particularly hard hit. Hundreds of people have been killed and tens of thousands are homeless. District Development Commissioner, Jatinder Kumar Singh said that according to the data collected so far, 9,000 homes have been damaged in the floods, out of which 3,000 have been totally ruined and such contributions are a big help for the administration. Assam floods: Death toll mounts to 36

Assam, Sep 26 (ANI): The death toll due to floods in Assam has now gone up to 36 with the recovery of four more bodies on Thursday. The floods in Assam have affected close to 10 lakh people in 13 districts and rendered a majority of people homeless. Two people died in Krishnai and Kukurkata areas of Goalpara district, which has been the worst hit by the floods, while one person was found dead in Tinsukia district and Guwahati. Heavy rains in Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh earlier this week led to the flood like situation. The government has set up 162 relief camps and shelters where 1.5 lakh people have taken shelter. Trucks carrying flood relief material halted near border check post in Kashmir

Kathua, Sept 24 (ANI): Government authorities in Jammu and Kashmir stopped nearly 45 trucks loaded with relief material for flood victims from entering inside the valley at the border. Trucks carrying food items, utensils, blankets, medicines and more were stopped at Lakhanpur in Kathua district – the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir – by the Toll Posts of Excise Department and the Sales Tax Department due to incomplete formalities. The trucks belonged to Shri Amarnath Sewa Mandal of Patiala, an organization that works to help the poor, old and unprivileged people and is also devoted to help people undertaking the pilgrimage to sacred shrine of Amarnath. Nine dead in Assam floods, over 1200 moved to safer places

Goalpara, Sep 24 (ANI): The flood situation in Assam has remained unchanged for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, with nine bodies being recovered so far from the Goalpara district. The army has been deployed for the rescue and relief operations in addition to squads from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Goalpara Deputy Commissioner said that over one thousand people have been rescued so far and just a few people are now left to be rescued in the district. Around 1,200 marooned people have been shifted to safer places in the Kamrup district, while the rescue operations are on in Kamrup and Morigaon districts. At least 415 villages in 12 districts are reeling under the fury of floods. J&K flood victims thank Indian Army for continued support and relief operations

Poonch, Sep 22 (ANI): Flood victims in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir thanked the army for relief and rescue operations in the valley that is facing the brunt of excessive flooding. The army together with the police set up a relief camp in the Potha-Baila region of the Poonch sector from where about 82 families were rescued. Though the district administration in Poonch has provided them with 36 tents, victims say the army has provided food to those affected for almost a fortnight. The Indian army has deployed about 30,000 troops for rescue and relief operations and soldiers have distributed 224,000 litres of water and food to survivors. Jammu & Kashmir, Sep 22 (ANI): The arterial Mughal Road in Kashmir running between the towns of Buffliaz and Shopian, which was rendered inaccessible following landslides caused by the recent heavy rainfall, has been reconstructed and thrown open to traffic. The road has been witnessing heavy traffic ever since it was opened. Residents of Buffliaz, heaved a sigh of relief after the Mughal Road, which is crucial for connectivity to Kashmir, opened up. Vehicles carrying relief material for Kashmir flood victims and other necessary items have been passing through this road which offers the shortest route to Kashmir. Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Commanding Officer, Pankaj Kapur, told reporters that the connectivity to Poonch has been opened from both sides, including Mughal Road and Rajouri on a war footing.
